VQ Orthocare will continue Beach Debris Monitoring at Crystal Cove State Beach
Rigs to Reefs Recap

beach cleanupWhile it may be easy to blame beachgoers, boaters and cruise ships for trash at our beaches, research concludes that nearly 75% of plastic debris found at the beach can be attributed to land based sources.  For the past 2 years, a dedicated team from VQ Orthocare has gathered data on trash found at Crystal Cove State Beach.  Coastkeeper sends this monthly data to be included in the National Marine Debris Monitoring Program, a joint project of the EPA and Ocean Conservancy.   Although the national program has ended, VQ Orthocare  will continue their monthly debris monitoring at Crystal Cove.  Coastkeeper thanks VQ Othocare for the valuable data they provide, and for their committment to protecting our coast.  Check out the links below to learn more and see how you can help:

Rigs to Reef Recap: The Report on the 2007 Rigs to Reef Conference is Out!
Rigs to Reef Report
On March 30, 2007, the first statewide Rigs to Reef Conference explored the potential for oil rigs as artificial reefs off the California coast.   Now Coastkeeper has put together a comprehensive report of this exciting event- a chance to meet the panelists and review the findings and arguments from each presentation and debate.  Whether you attended the event or missed it, the Rigs to Reef Conference Report is a must-read as we face important decisions about the fate of oil rigs in California.

View the Rigs to Reef Conference Report online, or give us a call at the Coastkeeper office (714.850.1965) to receive a copy!
Thank you for continued interest in Orange County Coastkeeper and Inland Empire Waterkeeper, and have a great Labor Day Weekend!
