Groupon Grassroots

Thank you to everyone who purchased our Groupon! The money we raised will go directly to helping us complete features of the Natural Play Garden. The first $500 raised enables us to purchase all the supplies necessary to build a real adobe structure! Children will play in and around this, expanding their imaginations and learning about California history. After that, the remainder of money raised will go towards installing benches, add much needed bridges over pathways and purchase loose building materials that help children develop their minds and fine motor skills.

Deergrass maze for children to run through and explore

Natural play engages children with nature, teaches them to feel comfortable and curious about their environment, and provides an authentic connection to the natural world. Children experiencing and learning from a natural setting inspires future conservationists and instills a genuine sense of stewardship. Natural playgrounds are inspiring and innovative ways to return children to the simplicity of nature and active, outdoor play. Elements such as sand, stones, dirt, wood, and water provide natural obstacles and inspire creative building of structures.

The Natural Play Garden will be open to the public along with the rest of Coastkeeper Garden in Spring 2013.

To learn more about nature play and the back to nature philosophy, we recommend reading Richard Louv‘s Last Child in the Woods.
