“No one has the right to use America’s rivers and America’s waterways, that belong to all the people, as a sewer. The banks of a river may belong to one man or one industry or one state, but the waters which flow between the banks should belong to all the people.” – President Lyndon Baines Johnson, upon signing the Water Quality Act of 1965.
Coastkeeper’s Law and Policy staff strongly believe our natural environment should be preserved, restored, and accessible. Reasoned regulation and strong enforcement is the foundation for a secure environment and helped make California a global leader in environmental protection. Coastkeeper’s staff help shape government policy by participating in task forces, commenting on policies, and testifying before committees and boards. We also help enforce regulations by filing litigation against industrial polluters to further our mission to protect and preserve Orange County’s marine habitats and watershed. To learn more about the role of the Law and Policy staff in executing Coastkeeper’s mission visit the pages below and see how you can be a part of protecting Orange County’s precious waterways.
