Coastkeeper seeks an enterprising, energetic, self-sufficient person to advance our Cleanup OC program and to assist with our education programs. Passion for tackling trash and litter issues in Orange County is required. The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for acting as the main point of contact between volunteers for events as well as managing our membership program. 

Job Responsibilities:

Cleanup OC Program

  • Recruiting, training and managing interns and volunteers
  • Events: planning, permitting, promoting, and implementing cleanup activities and other events with upwards of 1,000 participants including the annual Coastal Cleanup Day
  • Collaboration with partner organizations and businesses
  • Obtaining sponsorships and donations for cleanup activities
  • Recruiting partners for our Corporate Cleanup program
  • Outreach and advocacy on trash issues focusing on the obliteration of single-use plastics

Fundraising 

  • Researching web databases for grant/funding opportunities
  • Helping to write/put together grant proposals for Cleanup OC and Kids Care

Outreach and Membership

  • Recruiting volunteers and interns for tabling at various community events
  • Create an outreach program to promote the reduction of trash in Orange County
  • Input new members into database and coordinate with our Communications Director on membership outreach
  • Create membership levels with items that will encourage our members to reduce trash

Education

  • Schedule and execute assemblies and beach cleanups for 3rd-5th grade classes under the Kids Care program
  • Assist in various other Coastkeeper field trip activities as needed

Required qualifications:

-Completed or in progress on a Bachelor’s Degree in Science: Biology, Chemistry, Environmental, Sustainability etc.

-Passion for reducing trash in Orange County

-Proficiency at Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and Google Drive

-Adept at writing and internet research

-Comfortable with public speaking

-Organized and detail oriented

Preferred experience and skills:

-Education or leadership experience with K-12 students

-Scientific research 

-Grant writing

-Event planning experience

Salary Range: $35,000-$40,000, Medical and Dental insurance 

Schedule: 40 hours per week Mon-Fri with occasional evenings and at least two Saturdays per month interim.
