There are few places along the California coast where the ocean feels as powerful as it does at the Wedge in Newport Beach. Every summer, this iconic surf spot draws crowds of surfers, photographers, and beachgoers hoping to witness waves that seem almost impossible in size.
I have always been drawn to the ocean, not only for the experiences it creates but also for the stories it tells. Standing at the shoreline with my camera, I wanted to capture more than just a big wave. I wanted to capture the energy, anticipation, and connection between people and the ocean.
This year’s swell brought a different kind of intensity. The waves crashed with incredible force.
Through photography, I was able to freeze these brief moments in time: the height of a wave, a surfer’s ambition, and the ocean’s strength.
Each image tells a small part of the story of the Wedge and the relationship that coastal communities have with the water that surrounds them.
The Wedge is more than just a famous surf break. It represents the ocean’s beauty, unpredictability, and power. Capturing it through my lens reminded me why I keep returning to the coast: there is always something new to witness.
