OC Coastkeeper continues to make California’s coast more accessible through the Beach Coastal Access Program (BCAP), helping communities, nonprofits, and agencies provide more opportunities for people of all abilities to enjoy and access our coasts.
To date, Coastkeeper has reached 10 counties across the state, from the very north in Humboldt to our southernmost county in San Diego. Our work has empowered 9 public agencies and 11 non-governmental organizations, including the Bear River Band of the Rohnerville Rancheria, a Tribal community whose elders have benefited from all-terrain wheelchairs that allow them to access the coastline.
Meghan Fife, a Crystal Cove State Park beachgoer, expressed gratitude that her homebound mother can now go down to the beach and touch the ocean, something she wasn’t able to do for years. These beach wheelchairs let folks reconnect with the places they love most. Beach wheelchairs at Crystal Cove are free and available to all; click here for more information.

Through funding, more than 15 types of adaptive accessibility equipment have been distributed, including 41 beach wheelchairs, 2,850 square feet of access mats, 33 pieces of adaptive kayaking equipment, 13 motorized wheelchair track attachments, 7 storage sheds, 3 balloon-tire walkers, 84 beach wheelchair replacement parts, and equipment ranging from all-terrain beach chairs, prescription snorkels, tandem foam surfboards, life jackets, backup batteries, and more!
Each piece of equipment helps remove barriers and create more accessible and welcoming shorelines for all. As our BCAP program expands, Coastkeeper is committed to supporting even more communities across the state and working to ensure our waterways remain accessible to everyone.
Your donation to our Coastal Accessibility program will help this program grow and reach more Californians looking for inclusive access to our coast!
