A gift to our Kids Care program will go directly to help support Coastkeeper’s marine debris education program for elementary students in 3rd through 5th grade. This program teaches kids about about the dangers of marine debris while giving them a hands-on beach cleanup experience. Many of our Kids Care students experience their first visit to the beach through this program.
Coastkeeper wants to not only provide students with the knowledge needed to make impactful changes, but with the tools they need as well.
This holiday season, our goal is to purchase “reusable kits” for our Kids Care students that include an eco-friendly water bottle, cutlery kit and straw for them to keep as a takeaway. Sponsors can purchase one reusable kit per student for the donation amount of $35.
Kids Care is a hands-on, education program that teaches students about the dangers of trash in coastal habitats, how trash gets there, and most importantly, what they can do in their daily lives to help solve the problem. Designed for elementary students in grades 3 through 5, students are engaged through an interactive assembly and beach cleanup.
The program is one of the first service learning opportunity of its kind in Orange County for elementary school students. For Title 1 schools, the program is provided free of charge (including bus transportation) for one grade level.
